Founded in 1918, Newman College is a Roman Catholic co-educational residential college administered by the Society of Jesus. The aspirations of the Roman Catholic tradition are reflected and fostered in Newman College’s heritage building, designed by American architect, Walter Burley Griffin.
The College is made up of 270 students and is proudly diverse, with 20% of residents coming from over 30 nations, either studying full-time, as part of an exchange or a study abroad program. In addition, 30% of College residents are engaged in graduate or postgraduate studies. Newman’s modern facilities, comprehensive tutorial program and peer mentoring encourage a standard of excellence in studies. Meanwhile Newman’s sport, music, art, drama and community service opportunities promote the variety of gifts in members of the College. Newman is a fully catered facility, with students receiving their own bedroom and utilizing shared bathrooms, free laundry facilities and free membership to the University gym and swimming pool.
