Academy Pathways: Business Management

By Kayla Vinson

One of the academy pathways offered at Kenmore-Garfield High School is the Business Management Pathway. There are four total classes unique to this pathway: Marketing Principles, Marketing Applications, Strategic Entrepreneurship, and Human Resources.

Another optional activity that branches off from this pathway is Distributive Educational Clubs of America (DECA). This allows students from all 50 states to use the skills they have learned and incorporate them into realistic situations by role playing these situations with a judge.

There are three levels: Districts, States, and Nationals.

This pathway gives students the experience needed for basic customer service, management, and human resources jobs as well as allowing them to start their own business.

The academy is taught by Mrs. Julie Garcia. When asked how she felt about teaching this pathway, she made her feelings quite clear: "I absolutely adore teaching this pathway. It is a very practical, common sense type of curriculum that will help you in any area of employment. It's a basic foundation for working and/or starting your own business."
