I am very excited to be working with your students this academic year. I have been an educator for 20 years with experience teaching at the middle school, high school and college levels. 

I am a native New Mexican raised in Santa Fe. Prior to teaching I was a professional journalist for 12 years, working for the Austin American-Statesman (Texas), The Associated Press (New York City), and Reuters International News Service (New York City). After 9/11, I left journalism and was a New York City Teaching Fellow for two years while I attended Fordham University. I taught for two years in the New York City Public Schools, including Bayard Rustin High School for the Humanities in Manhattan and Alfred E. Smith High School in the South Bronx. I moved back to New Mexico in 2005 and taught at the Albuquerque Institute for Math & Science for six years before leaving to teach at the University of New Mexico.

I have a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of New Mexico, a Master of Arts in Journalism from New York University, and a Master of Science in Secondary Teaching ELA from Fordham University in New York. I hold a Ph.D. in Curriculum & Instruction from New Mexico State University where my research focused on service-learning curriculum design.

I play the drums for fun. I like to walk with my dog and I also swim in the pool and in open water. I enjoy spending time in nature and the outdoors with my husband, daughter and our silly dog, Suki.
