Stories that have been passed down for many generations
Fairy Tales: Usually start with 'Once upon a time' and end with 'they lived happily ever after'. Usually has talking animals and magic. Characters usually are kings, queens, princesses, etc
Often these stories have been told for so long that there are many different versions of the Fairytale where parts of the story may be different based off of what country it is told in
Parodies: Stories that make fun of already existing stories
A short story about REAL PEOPLE (or people BELIEVED to be real people)
Often TEACH A LESSON (many times to scare children to keep them from doing something)
The story explains what the person became known for
The things the character became known for are often very EXAGGERATED
FABLES/ FOLKTALES
A short story that is used to teach a MORAL or a LESSON
Animals are often the main characters
Antagonist (Bad guy) is usually some type of canine: fox, wolf, coyote, etc.
Often include an explanation for why something is the way it is in the world (Example: This is why tigers have stripes or This is why the moon changes shapes during the month)
Often Greek in origin
Includes the history of people who were originally here on Earth
Explains supernatural beings or events
EXTREME EXAGGERATION
Usually based off of a specific time in history (often in the time of the Wild West)
Often include an explanation for why something is the way it is in the world
Stories that COULD happen in real life. But characters or parts of the story have been made up
Based off of events that really happened throughout history. But, characters are made up or some parts have been changed.
Things in the story could NEVER really happen (magic lamps, flying carpets, anything that has you saying 'yeah right'!)
Events in story seem like they were imagined
Based off of things that could POSSIBLY happen in the future (but they have not happened yet)
Robots, aliens taking over the world, light sabers
TRUE STORIES written about SOMEONE ELSE'S life
TRUE stories someone wrote about their OWN life.
TRUE FACTs about TRUE Topics
