AHS Visual arts

Visual Arts at Albuquerque High School

The visual arts program at Albuquerque High School...is founded on respect...passion...opportunity...equity...work ethic....

The arts faculty believe in the power of creativity to explore the human condition...The arts are crucial to a student's development...

All students are expected to begin the art program with Art 1, which introduces students to the basics of composition, including the elements and principles of art and design. Students explore painting and drawing techniques, collage, and are introduced to three-dimensional concepts...

In our introductory classes, including...ceramics...students are expected to...talk about their work and the work of others...

After successfully completing the introductory coursework, students then have the option to move into more advanced sections of Ceramics, Photography, Jewelry, Painting and Drawing, and Computer Graphics. In each of these areas, students can move into higher levels of coursework and creative challenges.

AP Students will make a portfolio to submit to the College Board and demonstrate exceptionalism in the art studio.
