Your completion grade for the course is the percentage of the available activities that have been marked as complete, either initially or through a second chance assignments.
Originally you must score 70% or higher on a particular assignment type in order to receive completion credit.
If you do not reach completion before the original completion activity's due date, you can attempt the second chance assignment which asks you to complete some guided reflection in addition to the original assignment questions and requires a score of 85% or better in order to receive completion credit for the original assignment.
Module 1 second chance assignments are due before class on Wednesday, February 17. Module 2 second chance assignments are due before class on Wednesday, March 17. Module 3 second chance assignments are due before class on Wednesday, April 14.
Most weeks contain 5 completion activities: two h5P interactive videos, 2 practice quizzes, and 1 Monday discussion worksheet.
h5P interactive videos: watch the video and answer the questions as they arise. You can (and should) use the retry button to correct your answers along the way. Don't forget to watch the video all the way to the end and then submit the assignment through the submission screen at the end of the video.
practice quizzes: answer all parts of a question and then select the check button to see if you need to retry any parts of the question. After checking your answers, you can see overall feedback (if any) towards to the bottom of the screen and if you hover over the text of a missed answer you should seed feedback for that particular answer as well. This should allow you to correct and resubmit (for a 10% penalty). You can also retry the entire quiz up to 5 times.
Monday discussion worksheets: we will complete this activity together. Be sure to attempt all of the questions when asked and to record feedback to yourself (corrections and reflections on misconceptions or connections) as we work through problems together. Also, some of the problems will be initially attempted in small groups and you will need to fulfill your assigned role within the small group.
Each week you will work with your small group to complete a quiz over the week's material.
I encourage you to work together, but you should each record your own work, make sure that your work is written in your own words, and individually submit your work through the group quiz assignment link.
These are more traditionally graded. Your grade will be the percentage of the total available points (as marked on the individual assignments) that your work has earned.
I will drop the lowest group quiz grade and average your remaining quiz grades when computing your course totals.
At the end of each of our 3 modules you will complete a series of cumulative assignments totaling 100 points. I will average your total score (out of 100 available points) for each module to determine your grade for this category. These cumulative assignments are taking the place of exams for our course and therefore it is important that you spend time with them.
Review through think-share-pair-compare forum posts and debrief (15 points). You will post your answers to a series of review questions to an online forum and then reply with meaningful comments and/or comparisons to at least 2 of your classmates posts. Finally, after reviewing the feedback from your peers you will complete a debrief assignments in which you compare my solutions with yours and comment on what you have learned as well as let me know any of your remaining questions. Your grade will be based on your thoughtful participation in the posts (not on the correctness of your posted solutions) as well as the level of your reflection in the debrief. You can find a grading rubric posted in the assignment linked through AsULearn.
Explore through problem sets (70 points): I will post a series of problems that ask your to apply what you have learned throughout the module. These problems might be about making connections between algebra and geometry. They might ask you to use Maple to explore an idea and connect it to the content of the module. And, they may ask you to use the tools we have developed to investigate a new application. Each question will have point values clearly marked and I will grade the problems traditionally, assigning points based on the percentage of the problem that you have thoroughly and correctly completed.
Reflect through essays or video posts (15 points) : I will post a series of reflection questions (and a rubric for grading them). You should select one question to address. Your response can take the form of an essay or a video.
You will explore an extension of our course content and create a video presenting this extension to your classmates. Your submission and 4 peer reviews will be graded using a rubric which you can find within the final project assignment link on our course AsULearn page.
