Vision
Provide a positive experience and do my best
to assist each person on our team
to be the best person and athlete they can be.
In my perfect world, my vision for TKHS Girls Cross Country would look like this:
My goals as the coach are to...(not in order of importance)
…provide a positive cross country experience for everyone on the team.
…empower athletes to be part of the process (with an emphasis on seniors taking a lead role - but with each athlete having a voice)
…form a cohesive team that has a great dynamic…supportive, inclusive, encouraging, wants to spend time together...A team that athletes of other teams wish they were a part of and wished they had what we have.
…provide a positive camp experience for all with the team reestablishing closeness with veterans and forming bonds with rookie athletes and learning the new dynamic and personality of our team. At the same time offer balance with “working hard and playing”.
…provide an Environment of Serious Fun - where athletes take our sport seriously and do everything they can to make it a success in both subjective and objective measures.
...be present and let each athlete know they are seen and valued.
…have shared goals and vision with the team and being true to that vision.
...strive to win...Not settling for whatever happens, but striving to be the best team on the course.
…have our athletes committed to…
…putting in consistent training over the summer.
...being present while at practice and in meets.
…being deliberate with the details of our workouts from beginning to end.
…nailing the workout prescription (whether it means pushing limits or holding back).
…focusing on race strategies and/or racing concepts leading into races and carrying them out on race day.
…putting it on the line or going to the well for the team in the big races.
…challenging oneself and each other in being the best person, best student, best teammate, and best athlete that one can be and encouraging others to do and be the same.
…restoring or at minimum maintaining the tradition that the TKHS Girls Cross Country team has established in objective measures. We have a legacy to uphold whether we like it or not.
…having a single season focus - When it’s cross country season, our athlete's priority is cross country. Fully committed to the team…all practices…all meets. During the season, other interests outside of school take a back seat. There for the team.
…being healthy - physically, mentally, and emotionally.
…being a strong competitive team - and not see ourselves as an after school running club with friends just for the fun of it. Fun yes, but focus as well.
…utilizing strength training - regular strength training. (body weight, stretch bands, stairs, possibly actual weights, etc). Get and be strong and durable.
…having a championship mindset - Having athletes who want to win badly and want to do what it takes to be a winning team.
…having athletes on our team - We should attract athletes because they want to work hard and be a part of a team that is known for working hard, kicking butt, and taking names. A team that strikes fear in the hearts of other teams when we arrive.
…attending any fun cross country events and running opportunities during the summer.
…attending and participating fully in camp.
...racing with the love of the sport and a spirit of discovery, and testing limits, and having not the fear of failure.
…fully caring for and believing in THE TEAM…THE SISTERHOOD…EACH OTHER…ALL IN!
And for all of us to...
...leave the sport better than we found it.
...come out better people for having discovered something about ourselves.
...appreciate the time we had together.
...embrace what running can do for us.
