Varsity Determination and Lettering Qualifications
Determining Varsity or Junior Varsity for Meets requiring Designations
Some meets require designation for varsity or junior varsity. Two of the biggest determining factors for varsity and junior varsity will be previous race performances and consistency (particularly leading into the Conference Championship, which leads to the Regional Meet, etc), BUT I will ultimately make the determination based on what I think is best for the team given the information I have and the circumstances at the time (for example, who is running well leading into big meets for example).
Making top 7 one time does NOT guarantee you will always be in the top 7. This is a fluid number.
Lettering Qualifications (Varsity) In order to receive a varsity letter in cross-country you must meet at least THREE of these criteria:
Average in the top-7 for 50% of the season.
Run in the top-7 at the conference championship meet, or the regional and state meets. (If there are extenuating circumstances, it can be any one of these).
No unexcused missed practices or meets.
Break 23:00 at least once.
Break 24:00 at least three times.
Display a positive attitude every day while showing strong work ethic.
Earn “300” mile club membership.
All athletes must also finish the season in good standings with the team and coach. This includes having exhibited positive sportsmanship and being team-minded throughout the season.
Four-year seniors (been on the team as freshmen-senior) who have not achieved three of the criteria may be eligible for a varsity letter if they have exhibited positive leadership for the team and met two of the criteria. Other non-four-year seniors will be considered based on positive team contributions and met two of the criteria, but are not guaranteed a letter.

Please remember that it is a privilege and not a right to be a part of any team at TKHS.
