CONTENT & ASSESSMENT
Component 1: Understanding Drama— Written Examination— 40% of final mark
Section 1: Students will prepare for the written exam in lessons by exploring one play in depth. Students will explore the play practically in order to understand the acting skills needed to play the characters successfully.
In the written exam students will be asked to consider which skills they would need to play a character in the play. Students are also asked to explain the costume or props that character might use and how they would direct a scene from the play.
Section 2: Students will be asked to review a piece of theatre they have seen. In order to prepare for this part of the exam students will be taken on at least one theatre trip.

Students will work in small groups to create an original piece of drama about a theme or issue that they are passionate about. As well as rehearsing and performing their devised work, students will complete a devising log which charts the progress they are making in rehearsals. Students are marked on their contribution to the success of their devised work, the quality of their performance and the quality of their devising log.
