BTEC Creative Media Production (Media)

The creative media sector is a dynamic, growing and rewarding sector to work in, with new opportunities arising continually. The UK’s creative industries as a whole are now worth over £84 billion per year to the UK economy. Working in the creative media industry involves a wide range of practical processes, skills and techniques – from broadcast media to increasingly interactive products and platforms. As digital technology continues to evolve, media techniques have become more sophisticated and media products are becoming more advanced. However, what has not changed is that media products still have the power to enthral, intrigue and affect audiences.

Are you a Media Creative?

Do you know what one is?

There are many answers to that second question and the Media BTEC will help you to find out about a wide range of career opportunities.

CONTENT

The BTEC Tech Award in Creative Media Production is designed to:

  • Encourage learners to look critically at the world of media and recognize that they already have a wealth of experience and knowledge. We then build on this by analysing current media products as case studies, eg film trailers, to see how they are made to satisfy their target audiences.

  • Support learners in planning and preparing to create their own digital media products. This will involve activities like running your own production meetings, storyboarding, scripting, budgeting, designing layouts and titles. For example, current Y11s are presently completing their preproduction work to create one of a range of video products: a brand new mobile phone advert for TV; a music video; an online cosmetics advertorial

  • Give learners the opportunity to develop a range practical skills (digital cameras / Photoshop / video cameras / digital editing), across the creative digital media sectors: moving image, audio production, games design, website design and publishing. For example, as soon as they are ready current Y11s will be filming and editing their phone adverts / music videos / advertorials.

  • Support progression to a more specialised level 3 vocational or academic media qualification, or an apprenticeship. BTECs are vocational courses and you will learn skills that are used daily in the real world of work in Media industries.
