Apprenticeships and Other Non-College Career Options

Apprenticeship

An apprenticeship is a career pathway where employers develop and prepare their workforce. Students choosing the apprenticeship route get paid on-the-job training as well as free classroom instruction (many times, these are college courses that the employer pays for). Osseo partners with several companies who are looking for motivated students to join their apprenticeship academies. Michelle Mazanec and Kristina Bergh can help with questions.

Check out this apprenticeship video from the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry. "An apprenticeship is essentially a hands-on college education that you don't have to pay for."

Construction Careers.org

The Construction Careers Pathway (CCP) Alliance is a collaborative effort to provide year-round construction career exploration opportunities for Minnesota youth. The intent of CCP is to provide work-based learning exposure starting in middle school and concluding with a career in the Minnesota construction industry. Additional outreach emphasis is placed on recruiting females and members of minority and immigrant groups who historically have been under-represented in the construction industry.

In 2016, the Minnesota State Legislature appropriated funds to the Construction Careers Foundation (CCF), enabling contractors, trade associations and labor leadership to support CCF in building the overall CCP implementation phases and program expansion. *

The CCP Alliance has multiple strategic partners within the construction industry, labor, community, education and government.
