**Click here for a short video explaining How to Signup for a Permit Test**
An in-class Permit Test is no longer provided at AVHS so students must schedule their test at a local DMV in advance. The closest DMV to AVHS with a testing facility is the Eagan station however there are many options depending on how far you want to drive. Wait times vary by location and now you can only schedule a permit test 30 days in advance at a max. If you do not find openings at your choice location, check back frequently as cancellations can create openings without notice. The best time to search for a testing time slot is at midnight as the 'next day' opens on the testing schedules across the state; or try early morning.
To schedule your permit test go to DPS.MN.GOV, from the top left corner click on “Divisions”, then “Driver and Vehicle Services”, then “Schedule an Appointment”, then "Driver Services", and then "Class D Knowledge Exam". Then pick your location, date, and time. Again, appointments can be scheduled 30 days in advance at a max. You will need to enter some basic identifying information and will then be able to search for openings by DMV Testing location. *The test is offered in different languages and can be read to students but this must be set up in advance*
