The administration reserves the right to make the final decision regarding appropriate and inappropriate dress. The dress code is designed to maintain a safe and productive learning environment, and students are responsible for adhering to these policies at all times while on school premises. Parents are asked to help ensure that students make appropriate choices regarding school attire.
Shorts and skirts may be worn, but the length of the shorts/skirts must cover the upper thigh and buttocks area at all times. A shirt must not cover up the shorts as to appear that no lower garment is being worn. No skin-tight shorts will be allowed (e.g. biker shorts, spandex shorts). If a skirt has a slit, the slit may not extend above the knee. Jeans or shorts with holes must not expose underwear or skin for the upper thigh or buttocks area. Leggings/Jeggings/Tights/any form-fitting pants may be worn, but the midriff/waist area must not be exposed. Leggings/Jeggings/Tights must not be see-through, show undergarments, nor be flesh colored.
The midriff, waist area, underarms, undergarments and/or cleavage should not be exposed. The sleeves/straps of all shirts should be at least three fingers wide on both shoulders. The bottom hem of the shirt must meet the top hem of the pants at all times, whether seated or standing in any position. This includes open-back tops.
Hats may be worn in the building. However, teachers have the discretion to require students to remove hats/bandanas during class. Failure to comply with teacher directives will result in disciplinary action.
Hoodies may be worn, but at no time should the hood be worn on the head inside the building.
Sunglasses should not be worn in the building. Items are subject to confiscation for failure to comply with the school policy.
Shoes must be worn at all times.
Class shirts or any clothing designed to represent Wren High School or a class at Wren High School must be approved by the administration before it is sold or worn on school grounds.
Jewelry that could be used as a weapon is not allowed. Examples include studded bracelets, studded belts, handcuffs, chains (including chains on wallets).
Special events (proms, dances, graduation, and awards programs) are considered "dress up" events. Appropriate attire will be worn, or students will be denied admission and/or participation.
Any attire, body piercings, hairstyles, and/or makeup that creates safety issues or causes an interference and/or disruption of the learning environment shall not be worn at Wren High School.
Body/tongue piercings, hairstyles, and/or makeup that cause a disruption of the school environment are not permitted.
No apparel representing drugs, tobacco, alcohol, sex, gangs, discrimination, hatred and/or violence, in word or picture, may be worn.
Clothing, articles, or other items which display advertisements for, or messages or pictures depicting or suggesting, alcohol, tobacco, drugs, weapons, or sex are prohibited. This includes the bus and anything displayed on vehicles in the parking lot.
Blankets/Snuggies are not allowed at school. If a student needs assistance obtaining warm clothing, they may contact their guidance counselor.
Clothing determined by the administration to be divisive or that creates disunity in the student body may not be worn. Clothing or other items that display symbols, messages, or statements that would distract others, interfere with the instructional programs, or otherwise cause disruption are prohibited, including racially divisive symbols, messages, or statements, including the Confederate flag, Malcolm X, etc. This includes when riding the bus and when displayed on vehicles in the parking lot.
Cellphones and personal listening devices should be silenced and kept away during all instructional times. The rule is that no cell phone or personal listening device should be seen or heard in a classroom.
Cell phones and personal listening devices may be used on campus before and after the school day.
Phones should be kept in silent mode at all times in the building.
The Freshman Academy will employ "Device Isolation" for cell phones and personal listening devices used during unauthorized times.
-The device will be secured by the teacher in a locking bag, which the student will keep.
-To unlock the bag, the student must bring it to Mr. Chapman (or another administrator) at the end of the day.
-The incident will be recorded in the student's discipline file, and disciplinary consequences may apply.
-Failure to immediately cooperate with placing the device into an isolation bag will result in an immediate referral to administration, and the student will be disciplined for insubordination. Consequences for this offense will include out-of-school suspension.
