Our school district provides a Chromebook for every student in grades 9-12. As a cloud-based device, all documents, files, and other data are stored in the student's Google account instead of directly on the device. This prevents the loss of data in the event of a device malfunction and allows students to access their account and files from any computer. All students already have a Google account that can be accessed using their district email and password.
All Chromebooks are managed by the district, and all activity is monitored. This includes the content of emails, files, and internet usage. Students must follow the district's policies for the acceptable use of technology or be subject to disciplinary consequences.
Chromebook Distribution: 9th graders will receive Chromebooks on their first day of school.
Instructions for Use. While it's likely that most of our students are very familiar with the basics of using a Chromebook or similar device, the first weeks of school will be spent teaching students how to use Chromebooks most effectively. This includes file management, common productivity apps (Docs, Classroom, Calendar, etc.), and electronic communication.
Connectivity Issues: Chromebooks are configured to connect automatically to the network inside any district facility. They may also connect to hotspots and home routers but are still monitored by the district filters. Most of the common connectivity issues seen with iPads do not occur with Chromebooks, and we have found them to be very reliable both at school and at home. In the event of connectivity issues, students may see our school's technology specialist each morning in the media center or email chapmanc@apps.anderson1.org for assistance.
Chromebook Insurance: A yearly fee of $29 is collected to provide insurance for the repair in the event of unintentional damage or loss. An additional deductible may apply depending on the circumstances of a claim.
