Our kaupapa:
Students are encouraged to be active and to meet challenge by engaging with new physical activities that take them out of their comfort zone. It is a great opportunity to demonstrate our core value of Kaha as they display courage when trying new things. They also demonstrate Whanaungatanga by running events for others to join and by joining events run by other students.
Uprising - Climbing challenge.
Term One Uprising Trip
Giving things a go and taking risks is what we hope to achieve in this Hapori group and on this trip to Uprising, students really did push themselves and get into some technical climbing. Everyone embraced the challenge and despite a minor injury, had a great time using their bodies to hang on and have some pretty cool fun.

He Puna Taimoana Hot Pools
For the last day of Manawanui Hapori, most of the group went to He Puna Taimoana Hot Pools in New Brighton. We celebrated a busy term and spent some time relaxing together and having fun.

Getting Lost...
On Friday the 20th May we were on a student organised activity called Getting Lost. While we were "getting lost" we discovered this Checkers board and decided to play. It ended with a "draw".

Ice Skating - it's a Challenge!
Alpine Ice Hapori Trip
Romane and Lulu organised an Ice Skating trip on the 27th of May and 34 students came. It was a lot of fun, despite someone needing to go to A&E for a stab wound (caused by an ice skate) in the thigh!

Giving Back - Tree planting Day
On Friday the 1st of July some Manawanui Students went to a site close to the Climate Action Campus to do some tree planting. We worked with Sharon and Courtney from the Christchurch City Council who showed us where to dig the holes and plant the different varieties of trees and shrubs. It was hard mahi though, the ground was really hard and full of big stones.
We were really happy in the end as we managed to get all of the trees planted. Now we can watch them growing, every time we go past the corner of Avonside Drive, Woodham Rd intersection.

Rollerskating - Having a go.
For our first Hapori outing of Term 3, some of us went roller skating at the pump track by Margaret Mahy Playground. Three out of the four students who went skating were beginners, risking life and limb to give it a go. They worked so well together, supporting each other, sharing gear, encouraging, teaching and generally having a challenging but fun time together. It was great to see them going from terrified to excited and proud as they got to grips with getting around on roller skates!

Term 2/3 Tramp
Sam and friends organised this Manawanui Tramping trip to Nina hut in the Lewis Pass, but because of weather it had to be changed (for the second time). Instead of a postponement we decided to go to the Packhorse Hut on Banks Peninsular.
The wind was very strong and most of the students were sleeping in tents, so it made for an interesting night. Despite that though, it was a lovely walk up in the hills and everyone had a cool time hanging out and enjoying the time together.
Thanks to Sam and Jhett for their organisation and to Zack and Libby for supporting. It is great to be working with students who are organising these events themselves, not only doing this for others but learning and practicing some great skills they can take away from Ao Tawhiti with them.
