Kia ora. The Making and Creating Hapori is a space for our tamariki to grow their self-directed learning muscles as they design and lead learning opportunities for themselves and each other throughout the day. Our Hapori day is filled with workshops facilitated by student peers, adults (including parents) and older senior students from other Hapori. The workshops that occur encompass a comprehensive gambit of student passions from creating with paint, clay, fabric, pastels, drawing, chalk, cardboard, ink, free play, laser-cutting, movie making, dance, playmaking, technology, sport skills and papercrafts. The possibilities for learning are stretched further with adults and senior students running workshops that include all the wonderful things we 'don't know we don't know yet' including Katherine's workshops building a framework of craft handiwork skills, or Kate's fabric and art workshops or Andrew's technology focus in the garage.
We've immensely enjoyed having older students work alongside supporting tamariki with workshops. We would love to invite all students who have a passion for art, craft or technology to share them in small workshops during this Hapori, or if you just want to support younger tamariki to run their own workshops you are very welcome also.
We are excited to see how Making and Creating continues to evolve as students lead the way. Melva, Kate and Katherine.
