addend - Any one of a set of numbers that is added. For example: In 5 + 3 = 8, the addends are 5 and 3.
making 10 - An addition strategy in which you break apart a number so you can get a sum of 10. For example, you can solve 9 + 5 by breaking 5 into 1 and 4, then thinking 9 + 1 = 10 and 4 more makes 14.
helper fact - Well-known facts you can use to solve other facts. For example, if you know 2 x 7 = 14, then you can add a group of 7, 14 + 7 = 21 to find 3 x 7 = 21.
