near-doubles strategy - An addition fact strategy in which you add or subtract from a doubles fact you know to solve another fact. For example, you can solve 7 + 8 by thinking 7 + 7 = 14, 14 + 1 = 15.
helper fact - Well-known facts you can use to solve other facts. For example, if you know 2 x 7 = 14, then you can add a group of 7, 14 + 7 = 21 to find 3 x 7 = 21.
