Jennifer Maisel

Playwriting
Jennifer Maisel grew up in a picture-perfect Long Island suburb where she once found a dead man in her driveway. She writes plays that leave audiences’ senses quickened -- plays that magnify humanity’s fragility and resilience through humor, irony and the magic of theatricality.  Maisel’s The Last Seder premiered Off-Broadway with Gaby Hoffmann, Greg Mullavey and Sarah Winkler after productions around the country and abroad. Her Eight Nights premiered at Antaeus Theatre, garnering 9 Ovation nominations and winning for Best Playwriting and Best Actress. Her Sundance-developed Out of Orbit was awarded an EST/Alfred P. Sloan rewrite commission for plays about Science and Technology, made the Kilroy List, and won both the Stanley Award and the Woodward Newman Award for Drama before its premiere. There or Here (NYC, London premieres) and @thespeedofJake (L.A.) were named PEN West Literary Award finalists. Jennifer developed her new play, Better, in the prestigious Humanitas PlayLA workshop and Yellow Wallpaper 2.0 2020 as a Travis Bogard fellow at Tao House. She also writes for film and television.
