FAQs

What if I test positive for COVID-19?

Los Angeles County's Department of Public Health provides the following guidance:

People who test positive for COVID-19 need to isolate themselves from others (stay home) for at least 5 days after the start of symptoms or after the date of their first positive test to keep from transmitting the virus to others.  Isolation can end after Day 5, if:

DPH strongly recommends, but does not require, that infected residents have a negative test before leaving isolation between Day 6 and Day 10.

Residents leaving isolation after Day 5 should wear a well-fitting mask around others for a total of 10 days, especially in indoor settings. Please note that although individuals leaving isolation between days 6 – 10 need to wear a mask, people leaving isolation do not need to wear a mask if they have two sequential negative tests taken one day apart.

How do I make an appointment to come to campus?

Those who wish to visit a particular office are encouraged to email the individual or office they wish to visit in advance. During regular hours of operation, the Campus Services Center (CSC), Computer Lab, Teaching and Learning Center, and Student Lounge will be open for use. In addition, CSC will be open at all times while there are classes or events on campus. If you are unsure of who to contact to make an appointment, you may email csc.aula@antioch.edu for assistance.

How far in advance do I need to reserve a space?

You should reserve campus space as far in advance as you can. This ensures it will be available to you and provides the best information to the facilities staff to prepare for your use.

Will desk/tables be organized for social distancing?

While social distance is recommended whenever possible or advised, there are no social distancing requirements. All of our classroom furniture is movable and can be configured in a number of ways and class sizes allow for there to be lots of space in most classrooms. If you need assistance with classroom set up or furniture, please notify the Campus Services Center is Suite A1030.

Will there be access to hand sanitizer, wipes, and masks (PPE) while on campus?

Yes. No-touch hand sanitizer and wipes dispensers are installed throughout the campus. AULA will provide masks for anyone who doesn’t have one. Please visit the Campus Services Center if you need a mask.

How often are the classrooms being cleaned?

Classrooms are cleaned and all high-touch surfaces are wiped nightly.

I woke up with COVID symptoms. What do I do now?

You are advised to stay home, since coming to campus can be a health hazard for those you encounter. Contact your supervisor if you're an employee. If you're a student who will be missing class by staying home, please contact your faculty instructor(s). If you cannot reach your instructor(s), email your program coordinator and copy your instructor(s) on the email. You may want to copy your advisor as well. You may request that the program coordinator contact the instructor(s) on your behalf.

You should get tested immediately, and if you test positive for the virus, isolate for a minimum of 5 days after testing positive. After this time period, you can return to campus as long as you have no symptoms. Testing sites in LA County can be found here.

What should I do if I test positive for COVID-19 after I have been on campus?

If you have been on campus and test positive for COVID-19, please immediately report this positive test to COO Sandy Lee (slee2@antioch.edu or 310-578-1080 x3447) so that she can initiate contact tracing if necessary

I missed class because I was afraid I was sick. How do I get an excused absence?

Contact your faculty instructor, preferably before class, but in any case as soon as you are able. We recommend that you also copy your advisor if you are sending an email.

For classes that are in-person, is it possible for faculty to allow students to have the option of physically attending or attending via a Zoom meeting?

For in-person teaching, classroom facilities are prepared for a hybrid learning environment to accommodate the need for remote attendance as it arises. However, it is up to the faculty member or academic program to decide whether or not remote attendance is possible for class. Please contact individual faculty or your academic program to learn about remote attendance for specific courses.

I don't feel comfortable meeting with another person in my small office. Is there an alternative?

You can continue to meet remotely using Zoom. Anyone who wants to meet in person can use a larger room (such as a classroom) for 1-on-1 meetings with students or larger groups. Please reserve space through the Campus Services Center. We will have several spaces available for this purpose. In order to book a room, contact the Campus Services Center by calling 310-578-1080 x3301 or by emailing csc.aula@antioch.edu. Please request rooms at least 48 hours in advance whenever possible.
