Ground Rules
Thank you so much for considering becoming a foster parent to a dog in need! Fostering animals is a lot of fun, but also a lot of responsibility.
When fostering a dog from the Animal Care League, please remember:
Dogs should not be meeting new people, other than the foster family. Many of our dogs have been through a lot, and too many changes too fast can be scary! If you are interested in having your foster meet a neighbor or friend, please contact Animal Care League staff to discuss any specifications for your particular foster dog.
Please make sure your pets at home are up to date on vaccinations. Because some dogs need to go to foster to get over a cough or cold, or have only been at the shelter for a short amount of time, we want to make sure you reduce the risk to your pets at home.
Dogs should not be meeting other doggies while in foster (other than those living in the home). Just like people, some dogs can be particular about their friends!
When on walks/out and about with your foster dog, please make sure you are using caution and keeping at least a 5-foot bubble between you and others. And please make sure to pick up after your pup :)
Fosters may need to come back to the shelter for vet checks or for meets with potential adopters. It is the foster families responsibility to transport their foster to and from the shelter for these appointments.
If you notice any changes in health with your dog, contact Animal Care League medical team imediately medmanager@animalcareleague.org!
If any injury occurs to you, another person, or another animal as a result of an Animal care League foster, please check to make sure the party involved is okay, take down their information (name and phone number), and contact Animal Care League immediately.
