The Master of Science in Nursing Program at Angelo State University prepares graduates to practice nursing within an expanded role as either a Family Nurse Practitioner or Nurse Educator. Educational experiences will equip students with essential knowledge in professional leadership, patient-centered care, and advanced nursing practice.
The Department of Nursing has established the benchmark of 70% for program completion rates for the MSN and post-masters Certificate programs
The Department of Nursing has established the benchmark of 80% for certification exam first-time pass rates consistent with the CCNE benchmark
The Department of Nursing has established the benchmark of 70% for employment rates for the MSN graduate and Post-Graduate APRN certificate (within 12 months of program completion).
To achieve the outcomes, the Masters of Science in Nursing program is guided by the AACN Essentials (2021) document on graduate education. Our program provides students with an opportunity to achieve the following competencies:
Integrate knowledge from nursing, liberal arts, and natural and social sciences into the delivery of advanced nursing care.
Perform person‐centered care to diverse individuals within multiple complicated contexts, including family and/or important others.
Deliver equitable and inclusive healthcare along the public health disease prevention and management continuum via collaborative activities.
Generate, synthesize, translate, apply, and disseminate nursing knowledge to improve health and transform health care.
Employ the principles of safety and improvement science in advanced nursing practice.

Participate in activities and self‐reflection that foster personal health, resilience, and well‐being, lifelong learning, and support the acquisition of nursing expertise and assertion of leadership.
This online track is designed to develop expertise in the advanced practice role. Graduates are prepared as primary care providers to families and individuals across the lifespan.
Students completing the Master’s Family Nurse Practitioner track / Post Master’s Certificate will possess the Ten (10) Nurse Practitioner Role Core Competencies identified by the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties (NONPF) amended in (2022). These competencies include:

This online program is designed to develop expertise as an advanced-level nurse in the teaching role. Graduates are prepared to teach healthcare providers enrolled in a variety of educational programs, including those at the vocational, associate, and baccalaureate levels as well as in healthcare environments.
Students completing the Master’s Nurse Educator track / Post Master’s Certificate will possess competency in the roles of a Novice Nurse Educator according to the National League of Nursing’s The Scope of Practice for Academic Nurse Educators and Academic Clinical Nurse Educators (NLN, 2023). These competencies include:
