Nurse students need to be familiar with all requirements for clinical experiences and plan accordingly to ensure preceptors are in place in a timely manner to complete clinical experiences. Nurse Educator Core Courses
The MSN program has eight (8) core courses each FNP student will complete as part of the program as follows:
6312 Evidence-Based Practice and Theory for Advanced Nursing
6316 Informatics and Health Care Technology for Advanced Nursing
6317 Health Policy and Ethics
6323 Research Foundations for Advanced Nursing
6318 Pharmacotherapeutics
6324 Advanced Pathophysiology
6331 Advanced Health Assessment
6338 Leadership and Roles in Advanced Nursing
In addition to taking the eight common core classes, students in the Nurse Education program are scheduled to take five (5) clinical courses and will complete a total of 500 clinical hours over the duration of the program.
Students will complete indirect and direct precepted clinical hours.
Indirect hours are ones where students will complete 'clinical-related content' with feedback provided by faculty and mentors.
Direct precepted clinical hours are under the supervised guidance of a preceptor and faculty supervisor.
The NE clinical courses are:
NUR 6331: Advanced Health Assessment
This course focuses on developing advanced skills in interviewing and assessment.
Students will complete 50 hours of indirect clinical practice.
NUR 6340 Teaching Strategies and Evaluation in Nursing Education
In addition to completing coursework on teaching and learning practices, students will complete 50 hours of indirect clinical practice in education-related subject matter.
NUR 6361 Population Healthcare and Advanced Nursing Clinical for Nurse Educators
In addition to completing coursework on population health, students will complete 100 hours of indirect and direct clinical practice in a nursing specialty area of their choosing, such as medical-surgical, ICU, ER, neuro, infection control, home health care, hospice, school nursing, etc.
Students will develop and implement a project focusing on some aspects of patient care as part of this practicum.
NUR 6362 Leadership Practicum for Nurse Educators
For this course, students will complete 150 hours of indirect and direct clinical hours in the area of leadership with a nurse leader.
NUR 6353 Education Practicum for Nurse Educators
In this class, students will complete 150 hours of indirect and direct clinical hours in teaching role experiences with a nurse educator preceptor.
Students may choose to precept with a faculty member of a nursing program or with a nurse educator at a hospital or outpatient setting.
Clinical Information and Clinical Forms
As an FNP student, you are enrolled in the ASU Graduate Nursing Program organization located in BlackBoard. Within the organization, you will find information about clinical requirements, clinical forms, and preceptor information. Students can access all clinical forms and will receive notification when updates regarding clinical requirements are made in the organization.
