Components of an Instructional Framework

Activate, Organize, Comprehend, Apply

Activate -

Activating strategies link to prior knowledge, build knowledge for the lesson, provide novel interaction with lesson content, or may be a preview of content vocabulary.

Organize -

Organizing strategies provide or develop a structure for learning, understanding, and using the skill, concept or knowledge on which the lesson is focused.

Comprehend-

Comprehending strategies use routine procedures and thought process to help learners make sense of content, skills and concepts.

Apply-

Application strategies require teachers to craft assignments and tasks which foster student engagement in meaningful practice and authentic use of the skills, content, and concepts focused on in a lesson.
