Welcome to 8th Grade ELA 

My name is Cheryl Nickles.  This is my 17th year teaching ELA and my 9th year at SAA.  I have a Master's in Education from the University of NC at Chapel Hill (Go Tarheels).  I grew up in Asheville, NC, but I live in Honea Path with my husband, Nick.  I have 2 sons, Dylan and Hunter. My sons attended and played baseball for the University of Georgia (Go Dawgs).  I also have 2 beautiful daughters-in-law.  Marion is married to Hunter, and Lauren is married to Dylan.  Lauren and Dylan have a son named Lincoln and a daughter named Copeland (Coco), and I spoil them.  

 When I am not teaching, I love spending time with my family and traveling.  In July of 2022, I worked with EF Tours and, with the assistance of Ms. Paradis and Ms. Lovelace, led a group of former
Southwood students and parents on a tour of London, Paris, Lucerne, Switzerland, and Munich, Germany.  In June 2024, our 2nd tour with former Southwood students and parents included 13 days exploring Greece, Italy, and Spain!  We just returned from our 3rd tour, lead by Ms. Paradis. We visited Amsterdam, Brussels, Paris, and London! Join Ms. Paradis, Mr. Kay, and me in June of 2028 for our next adventure to Berlin, Prague, Krakow, Budapest, and Vienna!
