What is WelcomeNL?
WelcomeNL is a free program by the Association for New Canadians (ANC) that helps individuals and families coming to live and work in Newfoundland and Labrador before they arrive. Our goal is to help you understand life in Newfoundland and Labrador before you arrive here.
Who is the program for and what kind of services do you offer?
The program is for individuals (and their spouses/common-law partners, and immediate dependents) who are immigrating to Newfoundland and Labrador. Eligibility also extends to spouses or common-law partners of both international students and temporary residents coming to the province. The program provides personalized guidance, online resources, and professional support, specifically covering pre-arrival settlement, employment, and language services.
Who should submit a program interest form?
The main applicant must have a full-time job or job offer from a registered Newfoundland and Labrador employer (or be the spouse/common-law partner of an international student), and plan to live and work in the province.
The main applicant may be asked to provide documents reflecting their employment/job offer or capability to work, as well as proof of travel to Newfoundland and Labrador in the near future (for example: airline ticket, ferry booking reservation, etc).
If the main applicant has a spouse/common-law partner and dependent children, then this information needs to be provided on the main applicant’s initial application.
There is no charge to fill out this form. If we need additional information, we will contact you directly.
My spouse and dependents are coming to Newfoundland and Labrador at a later date. Should they apply separately?
No, only the main applicant should submit an application and provide relevant information about their spouse/common-law partner and any dependent children, including their expected arrival date(s) in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Is there a cost to join Welcome NL?
No, WelcomeNL is a free program. We will never ask you for money or to pay a fee.
Do I need to be screened in to join the program?
Yes, participants go through a screening process to confirm their eligibility for the program. This includes a review of the initial application and follow-up communications to confirm proof of employment/job offer or capability to work, as well as upcoming travel information.
Does WelcomeNL help with my immigration application?
No. WelcomeNL is for people who are already approved to live or work in Canada and are settling in Newfoundland and Labrador. We don’t help with visa or immigration applications.

How long does the WelcomeNL program last, or how long can I use its services?
This depends on the pre-arrival needs of the main applicant, their spouse/common-law partner, and dependents. We will work with you on a customized plan that best fits your needs and timeframe before arriving in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Does WelcomeNL help with finding housing or accommodation before arrival?
Housing‑navigation support depends on the main applicant’s destination within the province. You will receive more information about the availability of housing supports in your destination community once you are enrolled in the program.
Can WelcomeNL assist with credential recognition for my professional qualifications?
Provincial licensing is needed for some regulated jobs, including healthcare, engineering, or trades. We can help you check if you need to register with a local regulatory body and what’s needed to register.
What kind of employment services are provided?
We can help the main applicant get oriented to the local workforce and share resources to make transitioning into a new work environment easier. We can also support a spouse or common-law partner with job search assistance, resume writing, and/or interview preparation.
Does the program provide information about schooling options for children?
