Newcomers bring so much to Newfoundland and Labrador! You help fill important jobs our communities need, keep towns growing and strong, and add new energy to our culture and daily life across the province.
WelcomeNL is here to help you feel at home. We offer one-on-one support with settlement, employment, and language so you can build your social, economic, and cultural life here with confidence.
Your journey with WelcomeNL starts by filling out a short pre-screening program interest form. This helps us make sure the program is the right fit for you.
Once a participant has been selected, a comprehensive needs assessment is conducted by dedicated Association for New Canadians (ANC) staff with the participant.
The assessment team focuses on:
Settlement Needs – Including housing, healthcare, education, transportation, community connections, and family supports. This also includes understanding daily life in the province, access to essential services, and any supports needed for a smooth transition.
Employment Readiness – Including professional language proficiency, career goals, work experience, sector-specific skills, and Canadian/Newfoundland and Labrador credential recognition.
Language Needs – Such as communication goals, language proficiency, and access to instruction or coaching.
Each participant then receives an individualized plan combining employment preparation, settlement referrals, and language resources:
Settlement referrals may include connections to housing resources, schools, healthcare providers, mental health supports, community programs, or other services that help with daily life in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Employment support can include employment counselling, occupation-specific language training, mentoring, and job matching, depending on their needs. For a spouse or common-law partner, the plan may include resume writing tips and interview skills.
Language resources may include online English classes, workplace communication advice, and language coaching.
By accessing these services, you’ll be ready from day one. You’ll quickly connect with what you need to start work as soon as possible and feel more comfortable settling into life here in Newfoundland and Labrador.
