"Man is the free agent to choose whether he will work in harmony with the universal law of rhythm, or whether he will choose rightly or wrongly. But the result of his choice will automatically follow, and this inevitable result constitutes a manifestation of the law of compensation.
"He who chooses rightly and works in harmony with the law becomes the master of his fate, while he who fails to choose rightly and works out of harmony with the law is a slave to fate and a victim of destiny unconsciously created"
- Harvey Spencer Lewis
Enneadic Star Pronaos (ESP) continues the tradition of maintaining an AMORC affiliated body in the Portland area. This tradition extends back at least to 1923, beginning with a chartered Oregon lodge in Portland, which for a long time was called Portland Rose Lodge and later Enneadic Star Lodge. Responding dynamically to the needs of the times, it subsequently operated as a Chapter and then a Pronaos over the years, with several changes of meeting location.
We now have in-person meetings at Frog Pond Grange in Wilsonville and also at Parkrose Lodge in Portland.
Usually, meetings are on the Second and Fourth Sundays of the month, but we also try to match our activities with the solstices and equinoxes, so there may be changes to this routine. Please notice the Draft schedule of activities for 2025 later on this website and make a note of the events that you will attend. At least half of these activities* are open to Family and Friends of AMORC. So, Members: please invite your family and friends! (* the open activities include Atrium convocation ceremonies, and other special events announced on this page)
We also occasionally meet virtually over Zoom, usually on Saturday or Sunday afternoons, with videos for members only. Please check the Rosicrucian Community Events site (https://rosicruciancommunity.org/events) for details; new events are added weekly.
*COVID masking requirements: We follow the Oregon State Health Authority guidelines on masking for our meetings. Currently, masks are NOT required for our meetings, although members and non-members may still mask if they wish.
Join our email list: Please email us at oregon@amorc.rosicrucian.org if you would like to join our email list (and if you are a member of AMORC, please also include your membership number). You may also email us to learn more about AMORC and our activities in the Pacific Northwest area.
Summertime and the living is Beautiful!
Nature walk, meditation, Peace Ceremony and Picnic
June will see us in the cool, forested outdoors, walking around Whittaker Ponds and seeing birds and wildlife, then pausing for a meditation in nature. That's Saturday the 8th, at 11 am. Then June 22nd, Sunday, at 2 pm, we will have the Peace Day ceremony in the Woodlawn Park Ampitheater, followed by a picnic in the park, where we invite you to bring something extra to share. No alcohol is permitted in the park, though. Both of these events are open to friends and family. Details will be shared by email to you and on our Rosicrucian Community Events page.
CHANGE OF PLANS
July 13rd, at 2 pm, we'll have an Atrium Group Convocation at Parkrose Lodge, instead of the Pronaos Initiation, because I will not likely be able to leave the house yet after experiencing a knee replacement. The Atrium Group Convocation will be led by our newly selected Regional Monitor, Clayton Buerkle. Congratulations to Fr. Buerkle on his being chosen by Grand Lodge to assist our Grand Councilor in administering the affairs of the Pacific Northwest Rocky Mountain Region! (Both buildings are wheelchair accessible, by the way!)
July 27, at 2 pm, we'll have a strictly fun meeting, at the Wilsonville Grange where members and friends bring their collections of Egyptian art, games, cultural items, food dishes, photo albums of Roscrucian trips through Egypt, and so on.
August 10, at 2 pm at the Parkrose Lodge, we will have the Pronaos Initiation to welcome in our newest Fratres and Sorores! A maximum of five people can be initiated at a time, and though this is not a degree initiation IT IS A Big Deal and we tend to celebrate. We'll give further instruction as to what it means to be an active, supporting member of our Pronaos. (You can get a sneak preview by reading the New Member Handbook on your membership page (where you download your monographs: see screenshot from a membership page below* .) You qualify for this initiation if you have attended three or more Convocations, here or at other affiliated bodies. Write to me at the following email address and request to be initiated. oregon@amorc.rosicrucian.org
There will not be a second meeting in August. Neither building is well air-conditioned and it is quite likely to be extra hot that time of year. Also, lots of people travel with kids and family on summer break.
April 2025
This month we'll begin with a visit to the Vietnamese Nam Quang Temple (members and friends invited) and then end the month with a Convocation Experiment on Vibroturgy at the Frog Pond Grange. After the Temple tour, we'll grab bites to eat at local eateries and socialize. The Temple is where we'll be holding the Sound Healing weekend in May, so it will be nice to be familiar with the site ahead of time.
What is Vibroturgy, you may ask? Its the Rosicrucian term for picking up vibrations from things worn by others. We'll have items that belong to people unknown to the members, and we'll use the Rosicrucian technique taught in this exercise to get insights into who owns the items and what their personality is like. This exercise is for Members only, and it is one of several practical skills that a Rosicrucian student should have in their metaphysical toolbox.

Friends and members visited Vietnamese Chau Nam-Quang Buddhist temple. This temple complex has been in the works since 1996, and the community has built a symbolic garden around Buddha’s Birth, Enlightenment, Teaching and Death. The extensive grounds have four comfy meditation gazebos, a mausoleum, a library, a practice hall, a lunch hall, and many other buildings. What you see in these photos are a few of the people who attended the tour, standing in front of the statue group representing the birth of the Buddha. Elsewhere on the grounds, the community is using huge logs, cut into disks, as pathways between gardens in a side yard about two acres in size. Buddhist community host Master Kevin took us into the library and gifted many of us with books his Master had written explaining the sutras, in both Vietnamese and English. In English, Master Kevin informed us that one of the most important lessons the Buddha imparted was to NOT believe anything he said until we did the practice he (the Buddha) recommended, and proved for ourselves that he was right. That is So Much like the Rosicrucian teachings that say, read the monographs, do the exercises and meditations, but do NOT believe anything we teach until you prove it for your self.
The man wearing the yellow and green top is being reverent in the courtyard that has statue deities rejoicing at Buddha’s enlightenment. Behind him is another member who is contemplating something different. The woman with long thin braids is looking over at the statue of Kwan Yin, who represents compassion, healing and the essence of female energy. The man in the meeting hall with red carpeting is examining the decorations on the huge bell that a person may ring, after composing a prayer in their mind as to what negativity they want removed from their life. The sound of the bell, whose name is “Meditation”, is supposed to fragment and break up the negativity for you. This hall also has huge drums that will be beaten in a ceremony in May to celebrate the Buddha’s birthday. Look on the Temple website: https://namquangtemple.org and for most of their events, the public is welcome. The man and woman posing for photos in the entry for the meditation hall. This Temple is the location of next month’s Sound Healing Workshop, for member’s only.
(For more information on that, see events on May 3rd and 4th.) The last photo is of the sculpture representing the Death of the Buddha. I took this close-up first, because there is a stripe of darker marble under the Buddha’s chin that goes down the length of its clothed body and I wondered why the sculptors chose to leave in this Yin to the glittering white marble Yang. Also, there was a very small flower, blown from a nearby tree, in the palm of the Buddha sculpture’s hand.
Dear Frateres and Sorores,
Save the Dates and plan to attend the most interesting year yet at Enneadic Star Pronaos!
Here is your schedule (click link to access) for the next Rosicrucian year. It is a two-page PDF document, so it should be readable by most phones and computers.
THIS YEAR'S SCHEDULE WILL BECOME EVEN MORE EXCITING WITH MORE EVENTS THAN SHOWN! But these events shown will happen on those days. MOST times are correct, but a few are not graven in stone yet.
For example, we're changing the Peace Day celebration in the Rose garden from the evening to the early afternoon.
Some of the locations are not yet confirmed; this is a work in progress. We are making this available so you can plan your year around it.
Where the event is shown in yellow, that means you can bring your friends and family. It is an open meeting.
Look on this website for more details.
Sunday June 8th Whittaker Ponds 11AM
Nature Walk and Meditation
The Nature Walk and meditation at Whittaker Ponds, on Sunday June the 8th, at 11 am is open to the public!
Address:
7040 NE 47th St. Portland, OR
Here's a photo of the entry, coming from the south driving north on 47th:
Basics to bring: a hat, water, wear sturdy shoes and sunscreen/bug spray. Very nice to have and bring are a pair of binoculars, a bird i.d. book, or you can download the Merlin app onto your phone and it will help you identify birds by both sound and appearance.
Anjala will have a banner so you can recognize her, so we'll meet up near the parking lot at 10:45 a.m. We will bird and animal watch and walk for about 45 minutes, then stop in the trees near the water for a guided meditation. Bring a rug scrap, camp chair, or something you can put on the ground. The trail is paved and accessible 3/4 of the way around the Ponds for people who use walkers, but then it becomes dirt with tree roots. This is suitable for older (9 or older) children. You're likely to see beavers, nutria, kingfishers, ducks, geese, herons, egrets, frogs, turtles, fish, bald eagles, swallows, and surprise bird and animal visitors to the ponds.

This Ceremony is Open to the public.
It is at this Ceremony that we are all reminded of our duties to be agents of Peace in the world, and we are given the meditational technique to spread Peace world wide.
After this ceremony, which lasts about 1/2 hour, we'll picnic in the park. You bring your lawn blankets, picnic baskets, (portable table if you have one) hamburgers, hot dogs, side dishes, and favorite drinks (but no alcoholic beverages!). Plus one thing to share with everyone!
(We hope you'll use your regular dishes and dishware, cups and the like, to reduce trash going to the landfill.)
Please also bring your yard games, board games, musical instruments, kites, and card games!
