Provincial Master's Message
Dear Sisters and Brothers, Sorores and Fraters;
It seems to be a given, ever since the renaissance and the advancement of science, that we have held science to be supreme and to be the final source of “truth” in this universe. At every turn we see scientists unraveling the mysteries of long-lost secrets of nature and humanity. The knowledge of the wonders of galaxies and black holes and black matter, knowledge of the natural processes such as plant life producing oxygen from carbon dioxide and sunlight, knowledge of the invisible workings and interactions of sub-atomic particles are just a miniscule listing of the broad knowledge brought to us by science.
I recently watched a program on an in-depth scientific study of the events depicted in the Bible that are known as the Exodus. It was an amazing “scientific” study with all kinds of explanations of the “miraculous” events based solely on scientific principles and examples of such events occurring in recent history. It was very convincing and exciting to watch. But as I was watching this documentary, it came to my mind that modern society “bends over backwards” to find “scientific” explanations for all phenomena. I guess this is good because we are expanding our knowledge base and ferreting out explanations that are for the benefit of humanity.
However, what is being lost at the expense of expanding scientific knowledge is an appreciation and use of mystical/metaphysical practices. Given that the word metaphysical just refers to those natural laws that are not yet fully understood and are thus not part of the laws of physics as currently understood, there are phenomena that are used regularly by mystics and students of the “occult”, or hidden, practices that are beyond current science. One of the last regional on-line “Zoom” sessions had a presentation by Grand Master Julie Scott where she named a few such non-scientific phenomena – dreams, intuition, synchronicity. These practices and tools, so useful and ”normal” to the mystic, are not discussed and even disparaged by some in the scientific community.
Sisters and Brothers, Sorores and Fraters, we should respect and be thankful for all the blessings that science has brought to our lives. But we should always be aware that “there is so much more” to be discovered and understood. Our Rosicrucian lessons tell us much about the difference between actuality and reality. What the universe of actuality contains is way beyond our comprehension in our little world of reality. Appreciate and use our “scientific” society but don’t give up your world of metaphysics and continue to “have faith in” your miraculous inner processes and gifts and abilities given from the Divine.
May you ever dwell in the Eternal Light of Divine Wisdom!
