Since its inception in 1975, the Communication Research program has included courses designed to develop scholarship, skills, proficiency, and professionalism among its students. In addition, it undertakes research and extension activities benefitting stakeholders from sectors within and beyond the academe. The faculty includes full- time members who have served in the academe for an average of 15 years and as communication research practitioners for more than a decade. They have also greatly contributed to the development of the discipline through their researches, publications, and extension work. Individually, they serve as research consultants for various government, non-government, and international agencies. They have likewise established academic tie-ups with both local and foreign academic institutions. The graduates of the program include some of the topnotch researchers in communication, media, and their related fields in the local and global arena; with many becoming successful in corporate communications, government and nongovernment organizations, international agencies, market research, advertising and public relations firms, public information and public opinion research companies, the practice of law, the academe and other fields. The UP CMC Department of Communication Research has been consistently declared as a Center of Excellence (COE) in Communication by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).
