Section 1: Inquiry Question and Concept Exploration
Explanation of the guiding question or concept
Inquiry Statement: How can layering, color blending, and composition choices transform an everyday object into a compelling and realistic work of art?
Inquiry Writing:
Layering, color blending, and composition can make an everyday object (or candy) look realistic and engaging in art. By layering, it adds depth and detail, while blending colors creates smooth shifts between light and shadow. Strong composition then draws the viewer’s attention to the object, making something simple, like an apple or a cup, appear striking and full of life.

Section 6: Communicate and Reflect
Challenges, successes, and self-evaluation of how the artwork aligns with the inquiry question.
Creating my artwork, Candy Crush, challenged me to develop greater control and patience with colored pencils. One of the main difficulties I faced was avoiding burnishing too early, as it limited my ability to add layers and blend colors effectively. I also found it challenging to manage my time and maintain consistent detail across every candy piece. However, through trial and error, I learned to adapt my technique by applying lighter layers and gradually building saturation, which helped me capture the shiny, realistic textures of the candies. A major success in this piece was achieving a close resemblance to the reference image, especially the way light reflects off the candies and the variation in color intensity. This project aligns closely with my inquiry question about how layering, color blending, and composition choices can transform an everyday object into a realistic work of art. By carefully considering placement, contrast, and texture, I was able to elevate simple candies into a visually engaging composition that feels both vibrant and lifelike. Overall, this artwork represents growth in my technical skill and my ability to translate observation into expressive realism.
