This presentation aims to encourage teachers, students and parents for new explorations for second language (L2) learning by reviewing the newest literature on the influences of digital input on L2 development. Audience to this presentation will deepen their thoughts on how L2 proficiency is better achieved in this digital era.

2. What Does PISA 2018 Tell Us about ELL Students' Access to Technology and Their Literacy Engagement? (LeChase 104)

Presenters identify the impact of ELL students’ access to technology on their literacy engagement using data from students’ questionnaire in PISA 2018. Multiple regressions were run to analyze the relationship between technology availability and students’ literacy engagement variables, such as the use of reading time and self-perceived importance of reading.

3. Power Shift of English among ELLs in Online K(Korean)-pop Fan Practices (LeChase 148)

This presentation introduces the great power shift of English that the presenter observed on online fan communities of Korean band, BTS. ELLs were using English only as a tool for communication and putting much more value on the Korean language proficiency. Participants will discuss what education can do with it.

6. Maximizing Participation through Strategic Questioning (LeChase 163)

This presentation will look at the various ways that questions can maximize participation in the classroom. Using conversation analysis, I will show the precise interactional practices employed in a real classroom of 25 high-beginner adult students. Participants will be trained on how to reflect on their own questioning practices.
