TECH TREATS TIP: If someone shares their calendar with you, it's so convenient to use Copy to Another Calendar to copy an event from their calendar to your personal calendar. Duplicating an event is really helpful when you don't want to make an event a repeating event because some of the details are different. Sometimes you have meetings that are the same but they are on different days with different guests. This is when it's so useful to be able to Duplicate an event and change the date and the guest list but keep the meeting information the same.
You will LOVE how easy it is to copy formatting with the PAINT FORMAT tool in GOOGLE DOCS!
TECH TREATS TIP: After you select the formatting you want to copy, one click on the Paint Format tool allows you to select one piece of text or click and drag to select text that is all together. A double click on the Paint Format tool allows you to select multiple selections of text that are not together. After a double click , the Paint Format tool will stay on until you turn it off. To turn it off, press the ESC button or click one time on the Paint Format tool.
Feeling LUCKY? You will when you see how easy it is to create a DROPDOWN LIST in GOOGLE SHEETS!
TECH TREATS TIP: If you create your list on another sheet within the Google Sheet, you can hide the sheet with the list after you have created the dropdown. To hide a sheet, all you have to do is click the down arrow on the sheet tab and select Hide sheet. To unhide the sheet, click on the View tab and under Hidden sheets, select the sheet you want to unhide.
When you see how simple GOOGLE SLIDES makes it to EMBED a PRESENTATION, you'll think it's a JOKE, but it's not!
TECH TREATS TIP: If you want to edit your Presentation after it has been embedded, you open the Google Slides presentation and make the changes. It will automatically update wherever it is embedded. You don't have to go to the website or web page to update the presentation. Many websites have complicated ways to edit so this saves you from having to deal with the website editing process.
You don't have to go to Google Drive to share a file! SPRING into action with GMAIL and INSERT FILES FROM DRIVE!
TECH TREATS TIP: I really like this way to share files because I always have my Gmail open and I'm using it all day so it's easier than having to go to my Google Drive, find the file, and share it from there. I also like to share files this way when I'm sharing with people outside my organization because the email comes from me and has my signature with my contact information. If you share from Google Drive, you can include a message but the email is sent by Google and does not have your email signature. Finally, this method is the best way to share a file again if you have previously shared it with someone. One of my co-workers asked me to share a file with him that I had already shared so I sent him an email and inserted the file from Drive.
DON'T SWEAT IT if you deleted something in GOOGLE DOCS! Restore it using VERSION HISTORY!
TECH TREATS TIP: When you click on File and hover over Version History, you can select Name Current Version. Naming the version makes it easier to find and select it when you are scrolling through the Version History. If you select See Version History and click on an entry from Version History, when you click on the 3 dots, you can also Name the Version and leave it in the Version History. Finally, another great option when you click on the 3 dots is the ability to Make a Copy. This is really helpful because when you Restore a Version, you lose the current version. With Make a Copy you can keep the current version and still have a copy of a previous version.
TECH TREATS TIP: You can change the design you selected at any time. Just repeat the original steps to add a design. The filter arrows appear whenever you select a design. Use the filter arrows to do more advanced filtering and sorting. If you don't want the filter arrows to appear, click on the Data tab and click on the Filter icon. Clicking on the Filter icon will turn the filter arrows on or off. Since a design is selected using the Format as Table button, the Table Tools will be available to use.
Get ORGANIZED for the new school year! Create GMAIL CONTACT GROUPS, which are now called LABELS.
TECH TREATS TIP: With this new way to add people to a Label, you can easily add a person to multiple Labels at the same time. You can also easily move them from one Label to another Label at the same time. When their Contact Card is open, put a check by all the Labels that you want them added to. If you're changing them from one Label to another, uncheck the old Label and put a check by the new Label.
Using the PAINT FORMAT tool in GOOGLE SLIDES makes it as EASY AS 1, 2, 3 to copy formatting.
TECH TREATS TIP: The Paint Format tool can also be used to copy the formatting on shapes and text in Google Slides. This is so helpful when you're trying to apply the same formatting throughout a slide presentation. The Paint Format tool is not exclusive to Google Slides. Look for it in Google Docs, Sheets, and Drawings, too, and use it to make your life easier!
TECH TREATS TIP: Check out each of the emoji categories to see the many emojis that are available. There are even circled and squared letters available under the "Enclosed" category. In addition to being able to change the size of the emojis, you can also change the color of the emoji letters. Even if you don't type with emojis, they are still a great source for graphics.
TECH TREATS TIP: If a single cell (no pattern) is selected, Fill Down will only repeat the cell contents. When you select cells with a pattern and Fill Down, you will see the pattern repeated. The exception to this is the memorized days of the week and months of the year. You only have to type one day of the week or one month of the year in a cell and when you Fill Down, the pattern will be repeated. This also works with dates and time. If you type a date or time in a cell and Fill Down, it will list the consecutive dates or times. Fill Down will always follow the format (and abbreviation, if used) of the original selected cell(s). Finally, Fill Down can also be used to fill right, fill left, and fill up. P.S. - Fill Down works to copy formulas, too!
TECH TREATS TIP: Templates in Gmail used to be called Canned Responses. They work the same way, they just have a new name! In addition to creating new templates, you can also edit existing templates, and delete templates. I had to do some deleting recently because I had so many templates that my list was really long. They were templates that I no longer needed but I'm sure that I'll be creating many more because I'm such a fan of templates. I use them all the time for everything from simple messages to detailed messages with links and images.
