Teacher <points to eyes with both hands>: "Eyes Up!"
Class in unison <puts both hands in the sky>: "Hands up!"
It takes their hands away from the distraction of their mouse and keyboard so they can focus on the next instruction.
Materials baskets: I have pencils, keyboard covers, and typing flip chart books between every 2 stations. I'll also put handouts, crayons, etc. out as needed to save time during class and avoid passing things out!
Resources:
Keyboard covers
Touch Typing flip charts
When I make my curriculum map, I start with 6th grade and ask, "What should they know when they leave elementary school?" I break it down by strand and then work backwards (If they need to be able to compose, edit, and format a paper, I need to teach them this part in 6th, this in 5th, etc.) I also use the standards and scope that our Board helped put together and of course, input from other teachers!
I've made a series of short videos for the kids to watch before we start a lesson. Here's a couple of examples that are good openers - go to my YouTube channel for a comprehensive list!
And here's a list of other videos I enjoy using in the classroom!
