Nets and Surface Area
Part 2
Part 2
A Pyramid is a figure that can have any shape as a base, but then the faces are all triangles. The pyramids are named based on the shape of their base (i.e. if the base is a rectangle, it would be a rectangular pyramid).
The first figure to the right is the net for a square pyramid.
1. Use the story problem and what you know about nets and find the surface area of the square pyramid.
2. Now look at the second figure. This is an example of a triangular pyramid. Use what you know about drawing nets to draw and label a net of the triangular pyramid.
3. Now find the lateral area of the triangular pyramid. (The lateral area is the surface area of all the lateral faces, so everything except the base.)
