Conflict in Ukraine

The Russian invasion of Ukraine began on February 24, 2022. It has created the biggest humanitarian crisis in Europe since World War II. Displacing 11.3 million people, of which over 6 million remained in Ukraine originally and were recognized as IDPs (Internally Displaced People).

As of September 2023, there are now an estimated 3.7 million persons internally displaced within Ukraine. More than two-thirds of these IDPs (70%) reported having been displaced for one year or longer.

Given the safety of Zakarpatska Oblast, around 113,000 registered IDPs currently reside in the region, with many more unregistered IDPs understood to have relocated to the area as well. Numbers of IDPs are, and will continue to be dynamic, with many continuing to flee from conflict zones as well as returning from other European countries.
