The base is located in an open field at an operating farm. There are three porta potties as well as running water sinks located in our base area. We have two showers on the base, one of which has warm water. We have a laundromat 10 minutes from the base, and another one that is 20 minutes away, and there is also the option to hand wash clothes on the base. Personal tent camping is permitted and encouraged. We also have two large communal tents where volunteers might have the option to sleep on a cot. We also have a kitchen tent and a lounge/social tent available to spend your time in. There won't be much personal privacy outside of your tent, but it is a beautiful farm tucked into the mountains and we are grateful for the opportunity to be here.
*Please note that during heavy rains, the base can get muddy. It would be a good idea to bring shoes you don't mind getting dirty or rain boots, as well as a waterproof tent, and a good quality rain jacket and/or umbrella. *
Major stores and chains are located within 15-20 minutes drive, but you will need a car to access them. Our base is located in a remote area and is not walkable to any stores, restaurants, shops, etc.
We will have a designated smoking area. Please note that smoking or vaping outside of these designated areas is not allowed.
IMPORTANT NOTE- On the farm where our base is located, they have a colony of bees/beehives on the site. While they are not within the actual perimeter of our base, they are within close proximity. Please consider this if you have any allergies, and make sure to bring any medical supplies you may need such as an epipen, allergy medication, etc.

There is wifi at base and staff can provide a laptop or phone if you need to contact a family member. If you regularly need a computer or phone for personal use we recommend bringing your own.
In the U.S. the power plugs and sockets are of type A and B. The standard voltage is 120 V and the standard frequency is 60 Hz. If necessary, please ensure you purchase a power adapter to charge your electrical items.
There are power strips around the base, but not in the tents where you sleep. If you regularly need to charge your device you will want to bring a power bank with you.
If you have a US phone provider, your phone service should work on Maui. Always travel with a phone and working SIM card so you are able to contact us at any time, and communicate with us regarding logistics of travel. If you need to purchase a SIM card upon arrival, make sure your phone is unlocked before buying a SIM card.
For international volunteers, a few good options for SIM cards include Mint Mobile and Airalo (e-sim.) You can get both of these before arriving in the US.
We provide three meals a day, five days per week on our base. There will be no meals provided on your days off. If you would like to bring or purchase your own personal food, you may, but be advised that storage space is very limited.
Breakfast: We will have breakfast items for you in the morning to make your own breakfast. Examples of possible breakfast items available are eggs, fruit, yogurt, granola, oatmeal, bagels, toast, etc. We will have a coffee and tea station as well.
Lunch:. We will have supplies for you to pack your own lunch. This will include bread, lunch meat, cheese, fruit (bananas and apples,) peanut butter and jelly, leftovers from dinner etc. On some occasions, lunches are provided at the worksite. These can range from chili to noodle dishes to chicken veggies and rice, etc. Vegetarians may need to supplement a few meals, as sometimes these meals are not vegetarian-friendly. In the event that lunch is not provided at the worksite, you will need to pack your own lunch.
Dinner: Dinner will be provided on all workdays, and will be cooked by volunteers and staff via a sign-up system. Dinners will vary but some examples of common dinners are spaghetti, chicken and rice, curry dishes, tacos, soups, etc.
*Vegetarian diets can be accommodated but vegans and those with specific dietary requirements, restrictions, or preferences will need to supplement what we can't provide, with food items they bring or purchase themselves. You will be able to store personal food items on the shelves but personal refrigerator space will be limited. We have a cooler that may be used for limited personal food storage. You will be able to use the kitchen whenever staff or volunteers are not cooking meals for the base.*
