THE BASE
Base is where you will live, eat and play during your time on program! It is communal living at its finest. Some call it rustic, others call it home. Base is usually co-ed bunk style dorm rooms with assorted common areas for eating and relaxing.
ACCOMODATIONS & FACILITIES
The base was previously a nursing home that is currently undergoing construction. We will be sharing this space with other organizations and local residents, however, we will have designated space for All Hands and Hearts volunteers.
Sleeping arrangements There are two 1-bedroom units, each with a toilet and shower, that will be communal/dormitory-style with up to 8 people per suite in bunk beds.
Kitchen facilities - Volunteers will have access to a communal kitchen where they can prepare and consume meals. Each suite has a cabinet and fridge with limited space for volunteers to store personal food/snacks.
Laundry - Washer and dryer available on base. There is a communal laundry room with two pairs of industrial washer/dryer machines in the AHAH wing of the facility. Personal laundry costs $3 in total - $1.50 for the washer and $1.50 for the dryer. AHAH washes purple work shirts.
No RV or Camping Vehicles are permitted on the grounds.
ELECTRICITY AND INTERNET
WiFi will be available in communal areas on base and also in the bedrooms.
There will be power sockets in the rooms available for you to charge your electronics. However, we can not guarantee there will be a socket close to your bed. If you regularly need to charge your device you may want to bring a power bank with you.
In the U.S. the power plugs and sockets are of type A and B. The standard voltage is 120 V and the standard frequency is 60 Hz. If necessary, please ensure you purchase a power adapter to charge your electrical items.

We provide food for three meals a day, five days per week. No meal will be provided on your days off (Sunday and Monday).
Breakfast: Oats, Peanut Butter, Jam, Bread, Cereal, Tea and Coffee
Lunch: Volunteers will pack their own lunch each day- we will provide sandwich fixings and fruit to pack.
Dinner: Dinner will be a hot meal provided after the daily evening meeting. Volunteers and staff will be asked to contribute with cooking and cleanup.
Note: All volunteers will be assigned a day (on a rotational basis) to stay on base to help with chores and prepare dinner
Vegetarian diets can be accommodated but vegans and those with specific dietary requirements will need to supplement what we can provide with items they bring or source and purchase themselves. You will be able to store personal food items on the shelves. There is refrigerated space for personal items; please be considered that is a shared fridge. You will be able to use the second apartment kitchen whenever communal meals are prepped in the communal kitchen.
