In 7th grade agriculture education class, students learn what it means to be a consumer in the world of agriculture and how we use different products and natural resources.
In 8th grade agriculture education class, students explore different aspects of agriculture like plants and animals so that they can can better understand how they might be interested in it in the future.
Explore the world of Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources. This course introduces students to the range of agricultural opportunities and the pathways of study they may pursue. While surveying the opportunities available in agriculture and natural resources, students learn to solve problems, conduct research, analyze data, work in teams, and take responsibility for their work, actions, and learning. Students investigate, experiment, and learn about documenting a project, solving problems, and communicating their solutions to their peers and members of the professional community.
Plant Science is teaching students the form and function of plant systems. Student experiences include the study of plant anatomy and physiology, classification, and the fundamentals of production and harvesting. Students will gain experience through the various labs including greenhouse, gardens, and test plot land labs.
Animal Science engages students in hands-on laboratories and activities to explore the world of animal agriculture. Student experiences involve the study of animal anatomy, physiology, behavior, nutrition, reproduction, health, selection, and marketing. Throughout the course, students consider the perceptions and preferences of individuals within local, regional, and world markets.
Aquaponics and Natural Resources is a course that engages students in process of how plants and animals work together in a single environment. Students will conduct hands-on labs to learn more about our aquaponics system. Students will maintain the system along with planting and harvesting throughout the year.
Principles of Horticulture is college credit course with Kirkwood credit offered. In this course students are introduced to the field of horticulture. Students learn how to apply scientific principles to commercial horticultural practices and the improvement of those practices.
Agricultural Business introduces students to business management in agriculture. Mathematics, reading, and writing components are woven in the context of agriculture. Throughout the course are practical and engaging activities, projects, and problems to develop and improve business and employability skills. *This class does count for finical literacy credit.
Principles of Agronomy is a college credit course with Kirkwood credit offered. This course presents instruction in crop plant classification, use and identification. Also covers cropping systems, tillage methods, planting and harvesting methods, and crop growth patterns. A balance of theoretical and practical crop science.
