Testing out the seismometer is one of the biggest part of the job in the field. It is very important to verify that the mass is centered and responding properly to different stimulation.
The radio and antenna transmission and reception quality can be tested with the reflectivity and power of the data. We use a Bird to verify those information on the radios.
In our stations we have one seismometer per direction and they all register the data and send them to the observatory. The three different directions give us information on the localisation of the earthquake and its power.
We use VSAT and BGAN so satellite communication to send the data to the observatory. The antennas are usually hard to set up but very accurate. The satellite communication gives us good quality of data.
Tupiza is located inside the mountains at the boarder with Argentina. It is a very nice place as it is well connected to Tarija and the innery but also Uyuni and the salt flats. It offers really nice geology and desert views. The city itself doesn't have much to do inside but a lot of options for tourism and exploration: horseback riding, hiking, climbing... It is a nice place to pass by and visit if you feel aventurous.
