During those flights we can observe the marvelous shapes and movements of the glaciers around Alaska. This one was unbelievable and went through a lot of stress to look so surreal.
The helicopter pilots are usually forgotten when we talk about our work. They are a huge part of the team. They have the greatest patience while we work and the coolest nerves of all.
When you know you won't fly because the clouds are too low, you go on a hike in a seemingly haunted forest.
The sites in the South of Alaska are usually subject to much more snow and rain than the rest of the state. One place we visited had so much snow in the winter that the two borehole covers were smashed, the antena was completely broken, the hut door was filled with water, the solar panels were dismantled and the top of the hut was sheered.
On the other hand, when the sun comes out Cordova is such a lovely place. It is peacefull and mystical, its water is clear and refreshing. It's definitally a great place to go especially if you love fishing.
