We need to drill new boreholes for some sites that get floaded too often. This was the most fun of the summer. Seeing the drillers in action, getting to see the whole process behing a new station. So much fun! I was proud to lower the sensor in the borehole, set it to North, cover it in sand and connect it to the digitizer.
The sites are not always far enough from cities to avoid city noises. To help with that, a system of infrasound is set around the vault. This help reduce the noises and keep the data clean. You need a funcky piping system and a magic hat to put on top.
I swaped a lot of batteries this summer, AGM or sun batteries and aircells. The lithium batteries one are the scariest ones. You need to charge them with 50Amp (can kill you), set them up without bumping them (they catch on fire) and switch them on before you connect them to your load board. It is a lot of minacious work.
