I am a 29 years old French woman living in La Paz, Bolivia. I lived in many places and traveled to a lot more. I want to share my journey and my experiences through this website. I hope this can help.
I am working at the Observatorio San Calixto as a network manager/researcher. I have a seismology, geophysics and hydrogeology/glaciology background. I hope to inspire others by showing what can be achieved when you mean it.
I was born and raised in Lille, a metropole of the North of France.
You can enjoy the rainy days and the good and hearty food of a very warm culture.
I am a very active person. I love spending my time in nature: climbing, camping, hiking, biking, skiing, you name it!
I studied Earth Sciences very early on and felt in love with the diversity and complexity of it. I am a seismologist, working in La Paz to maintain the seismic network and do research to help in the observatory.
What is this website for? I wanted to share my experience as a foreigner living in another country but also as a traveler. I struggle sometimes to feel connected as I live far away from home. This is just an attempt to share my hobbies and stories of what I do and like but also how I live in different places.
I have too many hobies and sports are very big in my life. You name it I probably tried it. If not, let's do it! I am a big fan of snow sports and climbing. I love to be in water which created a passion for surfing, even if I am not good at it. For me exercising is a way to keep my head away from thinking and planning and wondering and so on. It is also a good way to just hang out with friends and be outdoors.
I love food. It is a way to connect with yourself, share moments with friends, feel good. I love baking cakes for birthdays. Make bread because it's hard to find good one when you leave far from France. I also simply like cooking because it feels good to be spending time on yourself. Food is also culture. Whenever I am traveling I make sure to try anything and everything. Durian is probably the most surprising fruit I tried.
I was drawn to drawing and paiting and sculpting at a very young age. I always enjoyed going to the museum. I feel very strong connection with art and with painting in general. I have spent a lot of my high school years testing and trying different technics. During my school years I have put it aside because I had too many things to do but now I'm back. Drawing is a great way to express yourself and you know what? It doesn't have to be "good". Just make it what you want and don't mind the others. Should I create a page with my drawings?
I realize that I am very lucky because I am able to travel. Sometimes even for work which makes it even better. I love meeting new people, learning new laguages, trying new food, learning about different cultures. So I always find myself planning a new trip to a new place. I learnt a lot about myself and discovered that friends are here for you no matter what. Traveling to the nextdoor town also counts by the way! It's a different place so it's all new and they might have different ways to show you.
How French of me is it to go to protest and talk about politics and fights for minorities? I actually think more people should look at their belief and question themselves. I usually watch a lot of documentaries, biopics, read books, have conversations and go to meetings where ideas are exchanged. That's how you forge an opinion and get an idea of what others are going through. I am a feminist but I'm not a perfect one I still have flaws but that's ok I'm working on it and that's what matters. Recognizing your weaknesses and changing them. Helping others and changing unfair treatment is what we should all aim for.
