A registered nurse is on campus during school hours. Students may seek permission from teachers to visit the nurse as needed during class or during break times.
The nurse will phone a parent in case of any of the below, to come and collect your child. If a parent cannot be reached via telephone, they will be notified via email.
Fever of 37.8°C/100°F or above
Vomiting
Persistent diarrhea
Severe nose bleed
Excessive green or yellow discharge from the nose or eyes
Injury to the head or eyes (scratch, fall, hit, etc.)
Any contagious disease (e.g. pink eye)
Head lice or pediculosis
Severe rash that cannot be identified
Complaints of discomfort or pain which does not go away
Injury or illness of a serious nature where a doctor's attention is required
Any other condition based on the nurse’s discretion
Your support and prompt collection of your child within an hour is much appreciated. In situations where this is not possible, please let the school administrative assistants and Nurse know which adult will be collecting your child.
Please Note: A student may return to school after 24 hrs of being fever free
and without the use of fever reducing medications.
In the case of a serious injury or illness which requires urgent doctor evaluation, parents are notified immediately and the nurse will go to the closest hospital emergency room to have the student assessed and treated. If a parent or guardian cannot be reached via telephone, the school may take immediate action in collaboration with the ES Office, Nurse’s Office, Facilities, and Superintendent to transport the student to an outside medical facility.
At times, a visit to the Nurse’s Office warrants the distribution of approved medication to a student for minor health issues (i.e. pain, rash or a minor allergic reaction) when parents have given prior consent during admissions for administration of the below mediations.
Acetaminophen (Mapap or Fevadol) - for pain or fever
Benadryl - for rash or allergic reaction
Zyrtec - for rash or allergic reaction
Prescribed medication
Whenever medication is administered by the Health Office, a nurses report (HERE) is sent home with the child informing the parent.
If your child has prescribed medication that needs to be administered during the school day, please send a copy of the official doctor’s prescription along with the needed dosages. Please note that School Nurses will not administer prescribed medication without instructions from licensed doctors.
Our learning environments support the natural curiosity of our AIS-R Eagles and therefore incorporate natural elements such as plants, soil and sand, flowers, and fruits/vegetables. We are also excited to teach our Eagles to care for several live animals of different species to include but not limited to birds, lizards, and small mammals (guinea pigs, hamsters, rabbits, etc.). Should a child be allergic in such conditions, we will make accommodations where possible but please understand this may not be the case in all situations. Modifications to the program such as removal and/or relocation of an animal(s) or natural elements cannot be accommodated. It is the expectation of the parent to inform the nurse of their children’s allergies. No child is admitted to AIS-R without a completed medical form.
