Attendance

ES Attendance

Students are expected to attend school regularly and to be on time in order to receive maximum benefit from the instructional program and to develop habits of punctuality, self-discipline and responsibility. Parents should make a commitment to have their child attend school each day except when he/she is ill. There is a direct relationship between good attendance and school success. Students who have good attendance generally achieve better and enjoy school more.

In this regard, we encourage all families to match family vacations with the school holidays. Extended absences due to traveling are discouraged and some activities may not be able to be made-up.

Absences

Tardiness

Students are expected to be in class on time. Attendance is taken at 8:30am. Starting at 8:35 am students are marked as tardy in PowerSchool.

Any student arriving after 8:35 must check into the ES Office before proceeding to class.

Repeated tardiness will be referred to the ES principal and a parent conference may be scheduled if students continue to be tardy regularly.

Arrival and Dismissal

The school does not provide transportation for the students. Students may enter the school campus starting at 8:10am and should not arrive prior to this time. Supervision of students does not start until after 8:10am.

Afternoon transportation must arrive no later than:

Parents must contact the homeroom teacher and the ES Office when their child changes home transportation.

For families that arrange after school playdates, all respective teachers and the ES Office must be notified by 1:00pm. Confirmation is needed by all participating students’ parents.

Parents, drivers, and/or nannies should wait for their child(ren) at the designated dismissal areas.

At no time, may a non-resident of Al Bustan be permitted to discuss through AIS-R’s Al Bustan gate.

School hours change for Ramadan.

Students Departing Campus Prior to Dismissal

Students must remain on campus from the beginning of the school day until the scheduled school dismissal time.

Students are not permitted, under any circumstances, to depart campus without guardian accompaniment during school hours. Al Bustan residents must meet their child at the school gate.

If a student’s guardian chooses to pick them up early, the student will be dismissed by the Elementary School office staff. When a student departs campus during school hours a gate pass is required.

If the child rides the bus home, please inform the regular bus monitor or driver so they can plan accordingly.

School staff is not permitted to accompany students off campus unless authorized by the divisional principal in the case of an emergency.

Only persons with an Al Bustan Residence ID may pass through the Al Bustan gate.

Late Pick-Up

AIS-R Elementary School does not provide after school care. All students must be picked-up at the scheduled school departure time.

If transportation is late, PreK-Grade 2 students will wait in the ES Office. Grade 3-5 students wait at the “Learn with Us” gate outdoor waiting area.

Students waiting for transportation may not roam around the campus and must remain in the assigned area. All students walking to and from school must depart the campus by 3:30pm unless staying for a scheduled After School Activity.

Guardianship

For emergency purposes, the AIS-R ES Guardianship FORM must be completed prior to parents traveling or being away from home. The form allows the parent(s) to grant temporary guardianship to another adult when the parent(s) is out of the city and/or country.  Parents must complete this form to ensure that the ES Office and teachers are properly informed of an alternative caretaker.  The appointed guardian must sign the form and submit it to the ES Office before the date of travel.
