Explicit connections to Environmental Sustainability in AIS-R classrooms:
Technology Connections in Education:
These strategies promote environmental sustainability through a reduction of printing and paper consumption
One to World: Students G3-5 bring iPads, students G6-12 bring their own devices
Teacher Dashboard: used to disseminate curriculum, learning objectives and collect evidence of student learning in a paper free environment
Moodle and Blogs: all teachers have a moodle page or blog which is used to share information digitally with students and parents
Apps: Apps are used to document student learning in digital format
AIS-R paperless handbooks and forms are housed in the AIS-R Eagle Site
Eagle Ambassadors:
EAGLE ambassadors are a group of students from grade 3 to 12 who exemplify attributes that promote the EAGLE Honor Code
Ambassadors assist in the planning of special AIS-R events such as U.N. Week, International Festival, and Earth Week
Ambassadors will give guided tours of the campus to guests and prospective AIS-R families
The program strives to enhance student voice during some of the educational programs and celebrations on campus, as well as inform guests about the many aspects of life at AIS-R
Compass Model (A sustainable thinking tool):
The Compass Model is the guide for how we think sustainably as a school
It can be used in classes K-12 to connect to sustainable thinking
Professional Learning sessions are being used in the high school to introduce the framework and to plan for how the model can be used within the Global Citizenship Learning Goals and regular school learning outcomes

As a part of CIS Project 5, a curriculum for Global Citizenship including Environmental Sustainability was implemented on Early Release (ER) Days. Through this curriculum, students are engaged in discussions, projects, and action experiences that have created a deeper understanding of environmental sustainability.
It is AIS-R’s goal to further develop and implement a more comprehensive Global Citizenship Curriculum which incorporates Environmental Sustainability. This will be completed through our Social Studies curriculum review cycle, the further development of our ER Day K-12 Curriculum and, by adapting our Earth/EAGLE Week activities from a focus on awareness to action.
