In the fall of 2015, The American International School - Riyadh embarked on a two-year journey towards Global Citizenship Certification with the Council of International Schools. The goal? To develop and enhance global citizenship within or students and community. This important process has engaged our learning community in six collaborative K-12 projects, one of which is Project 2 - Environmental Sustainability. The primary objective of Project 2 - Environmental Sustainability is to produce a living Environmental Sustainability Handbook and Plan as a guide for continuing to develop sustainable practices at AIS-R.
As a school community committed to excellence in educating and inspiring students to be responsible, productive, and ethical global citizens with the skills and passion to create a more inclusive, sustainable, and peaceful world, we can find no goal more important than protecting our local and global environments today and well into the future. This Environmental Sustainability Handbook and Plan addresses the ways in which AIS-R has examined its new campus construction, current environmental and sustainable practices, as well as how these practices will continue to develop, focusing on energy, transportation and air, land, water, waste, and engagement and learning.
