GPA Exemptions are available for juniors and seniors in their third or fourth year of high school. Students requesting a GPA exemption must have a 7.0 overall GPA. Students can only GPA exempt courses that are beyond the credits required by the state for graduation and can only exempt two courses per semester. The student MUST declare his or her intent to take a course as GPA Exempt within the first three weeks of each semester. The decision to GPA Exempt a course is final and cannot be rescinded. The numerical grade earned on a GPA Exempt course shall be posted on the transcript but no grade points will be given. A third GPA Exemption may be granted in a semester for band, choir, orchestra or athletics if applied to a third or fourth year course that is paired with another course in the same program. Final Exam exemptions are available to juniors and seniors in their third or fourth year of high school. Student may request an exemption from taking a final exam in either semester if the student meets all of the following conditions:
Has a grade average of 80 or better
Has no more than three excused absences in the semester in which the waiver is requested. This includes absences for illness, or hospitalization or religious activities.
Has had no unexcused absences during the semester.
Has not been assigned to in school suspension or an alternative education program.
If the student elects to take the final examination, the examination grade shall be used to calculate the student's final grade for the semester ONLY if the examination grade IMPROVES the final average.
