Artist Statement (click to read)

When I’m brainstorming what I want to paint I always ask myself what would be fun to paint. Recently it’s been a mix of realism and surrealism, aquatic animals in meal settings or cowgirls and aliens. Both are very fun for me and for whoever’s looking at my art. Art has always been an important part of my life and something that I’ve always been interested in, so I’m going to be majoring in Illustration in hopes of creating more art to put a smile on people’s faces.

In my recent body of work I’ve looked at play on words and surreal situations. There’s a theme with animals in playful settings: a cow underwater, shark in a shark fin soup, and an octopus on a classy dinner table. In a separate painting I wanted to explore a Wild West theme, so I painted a cowgirl shootout with absurd UFOs in the background. I enjoy bringing bizarre situations to life in my paintings and just having fun with my paintings, I don’t want them to be too serious.
