Part 1: Sustained Investigation

My study illustrates different types of hyper-fixations caused by loneliness and traumatic neglect. Throughout my life, I have constantly dealt with the feeling of loneliness due to lack of familial love and difficulty making friends. As such, I used stuffed animals as a method of aiding my situation. This inspired me to use teddy bears to personify my pain and represent absent friends and family. The bears are placed in scenarios that depict the external consequences from my loneliness. However, the scenarios slowly change as I discover self love journey and build my independence.

In this body of work, I experimented with several types of materials, ranging from graphite on paper, to oil paint on canvas/wood, even found materials. Sketching and practicing drawing different elements helped me improve technique on my final pieces. I used a variety of supplies in setting up photos and ideas, and even tried incorporating the actual bear in my final piece to show my self growth to self love. I manipulated the bear in diverse ways to convey my feelings to the viewer. I also revised certain aspects of my works several times to improve the illusionistic quality of the imagery.
